[Review] The Face Inc, Doctor Prescribed Skincare At Your Fingertips

Doctor's prescription skincare is something quite new to us, as growing up right till now, we never really had any drastic or major skin concerns or issues we face with our skin (thank goodness *_^), unlike some other friends whom we know, continue to battle with acne, blemishes and troubled skin, we are quite sure that they would be very familiar with visiting a dermatologist or skin doctor.

Now, with the existence of this beauty brand, The Face Inc, which gets serious with our skincare regime with serious science and technology, and using the online platform to make consulting a medical practitioner for beauty purposes much easier for those who require such assistance. The brand's goal is to provide accessibility to formulations and therapeutic protocols usually only available through prescription by skin doctors and dermatologists. We had the pleasure to attend The Face Inc's official launch in Malaysia (the brand was established in Singapore first) and their new release of the Eye Lift at Ruyi & Lyn recently and learnt more about the brand's approach and philosophy from the founder and Managing Director, Wilson Goh and Wenda Tan, The Face Inc Professional Affairs Manager herself. We shall also share with you our experience of using our own set of personalized Dr. Rei's prescribed skincare.

The Face Inc's primary offering is a skincare range comprising of 16 products, that is of near pharmaceutical grade, their high concentration of active ingredients translates into prompt and visible results, apparently. So, how to obtain a set of your very own The Face Inc skincare regime, tailored to your individual needs and concern? Quite simple. We hop onto the brand's official website here, and a virtual skin doctor called Dr. Rei will guide you through a series of skin questions, basically to discern and find out what exactly are your concerns and what would you like to achieve, and some of your daily lifestyle habits that may affect your skin. Voila, at the end of the questionnaires, you will be given your special prescribed number and the set will be delivered to you.

As you can see, our prescribed number is 69330, as we keyed in our concern are more towards pigmentation and some anti-aging issues which needed some rescue. All The Face Inc products are colour coded, which makes it easy to identify and use. Our range consist of the followings:

1. Cleansing Gel
2. Active Toner
3. Lightener
4. Cell Renewal
5. Exfoliant
7. Anti Oxidant
8. UV Defense SPF50 Non Tinted

Cleansing Gel (50ml, MYR48)
Comes in a clear tube with a pump, this clear gel has a little faint fragrance but lit is a pleasing one. It also lathers well with water. A proprietary cleansing formulation that hydrates and tones all skin types. The cucumber extract acts as a skin conditioning and softening agent, and has mild exfoliating properties. Sodium Chloride acts as a natural astringent and antiseptic agent that absorbs moisture, firms the skin and balances the PH of the skin. We love the feel of this clear cleansing gel on our skin, lightweight but good enough to leave our skin clean after use. Wet face and massage gently and rinse off after that. It has a soothing feel to it as well.

Active Toner (50ml, MYR48)
Along the same vein with the cleansing gel, packaged in green and comes in the same tube and pump, this alcohol-free toner contains AHAs for an enhanced cleansing process. Citric and Lactic Acids remove dead skin cells to reduce wrinkles, discoloration and roughness. Allantoin (here to understand a little more) increases the extracellular water content of the skin to stimulate healthy tissue formation. After applying this colourless toner all over the face with the cotton pad, it leaves our face feeling refreshed. We do like the fact that it only has a very faint scent, which we don't mind.

Lightener (30ml, MYR178)
According to The Face Inc, this is a proprietary formulation that effectively lightens pigment spots and scars. Arbutus (here for more) inhibits tyrosinase (here) and thus inhibits the formation of melanin. It also promotes the reduction of irregular pigmentation or melanin patches, and improve skin blemishes. Shake bottle before use.

We had high hopes for this product as we have two quite visible dark spots on our face and was really looking forward to check out its efficacy. The lightener is a white milky concentrate that glides on pretty well on the face, we only apply it to the dark spots area, where required. It is just a little sticky but will disappear once it is dry, which we had no issues with. The only thing is after one month of day and night use, very diligently, we would say, at the end of the duration, we did not really notice any changes to our pigmentation. Perhaps our dark spots are really stubborn, we were disappointed in that sense.

Cell Renewal (30ml, MYR198)
Who would not like a skincare product that increases cell renewal and stimulate collagen production, right? So, this Cell Renewal aims to do just this, and more. It is supposed to work on reducing the fine lines and help to improve and even out the skin tone. Retinol, a form of Vitamin A contained within, resurfaces and rejuvenates the skin by penetrating beyond the outer layers of the skin to repair the dermis where collagen and elastin reside. Salicylic Acid, removes dead skin readily to make room for new cell growth. Shake bottle before use.

We did notice the original clear fluid gel-like texture of this product turned colour slightly, but no funny smell though. It comes in a tube and pump and we only apply this product under our eyes areas since we do have some fine lines there, as well as a tad around our laugh lines. We do have to say that we noticed our fine lines under our eyes area has a little improvement after a month of usage. Not that bad after all, we feel.

Exfoliant (30ml, MYR128)
As its name suggests, this is a proprietary formulation for the improvement of clogged pores, aged and photo-damaged skin. AHA exfoliates dead skin, improves skin texture and tone. BHA clears blackheads and whiteheads, prevents pimples pores from clogging, thereby allowing for new cell growth. We love that this is another clear, gel-like fluid that dries quickly upon application. Since we do not have issues with lots of blackheads and whiteheads (the last we checked *_^), we can't really vouch for the efficacy of this exfoliant in terms of its effect on our skin that obviously, but the feeling on the face is nice.

Anti Oxidant (30ml, MYR268)
An anti-oxidant with maximum Vitamin C content to encourage collagen and elastin production. This one also controls the adverse effects of photo-damage and premature skin aging. Ascorbic Acid (here) and Ascorbyl Tetraisoplamitate (here) suppress pigmentation of the skin and improve skin elasticity by stimulation of collagen synthesis. Shake bottle before use.

Like the rest, we used this product for a month and it is not easy for us to determine its efficacy. Perhaps it requires longer period of time to see the obvious, we believe. Nonetheless, we have no qualms about the lightweight texture and gel-type fluid.

UV Defense SPF50 Non Tinted (30ml, MYR188)
The Face Inc offers two types of sunscreen, one is tinted, the other is not. We have the non-tinted version to try. An advanced physical non tinted sunscreen for protection of the skin against harmful UV rays, prevention of sunburn and photo-damage. Proprietary blend of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide delivers broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Vitamin E acts as an anti-oxidant and moisturizing agent. Shake well before use.

This sunscreen is a cream type, white in colour. In terms of consistency, it is not watery, medium thickness. Once spread over face and neck, it does not leave white residue, which is great. We do prefer our sunscreen a little more watery than this consistency though. Just a personal preference.

Overall Experience
What we love about the brand is that it is customizable according to one's needs and concerns, and we can imagine the readily and easy accessibility of a prescribe skincare online may help those we feel awkward due to social taboo and stigma to consult a skin doctor. On the other hand, some do prefer the traditional approach of actually seeing a doctor in person to get their prescribed skincare as one can go through further discussions and evaluation with the skin doctor or dermatologist. We also like that the packaging is kept simple and easy, also pretty lightweight, which makes taking on trips and traveling a breeze. It is also super hygienic as all products are stored in see-through tube with the pump system. We do like the idea of all that we have tried here come in clear gel forms.

It is obvious that we do have some favourites and likes more, over the others. Overall, it was a good experience using our set of personalized prescribed skincare. Thanks The Face Inc for the love. and thanks Suppagood Futurist PR for the invite. If you wonder what happens if you run out of certain products and would like to re-purchase, The Face Inc is available at key Sasa stores in Klang Valley, Malacca, Ipoh and Penang. More about the brand here.

We have not had the chance to try out the Eye Lift just yet, do come back again for our review on that product in the near future.

Hope you are having a beautiful week so far, lovelies *_^

With love,
Jeann

  1. This line sounds like it takes clinical skincare to the next level. It sounds like it offers targeted treatments for your skin without having to see a dermatologist. Definitely an interesting approach and I do like the sleek and minimal look of the packaging especially the Eye Lift. Do let us know how that works out for you Jeann :)
